I am a pedal harpist and a lap harpist freelancing in the central NJ area. I provide music for wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions, parties, musical theatre, ensemble and orchestral work, church services, school performances, nursing homes and assisted livings. Harp therapy is also available for any of these facilities. What is music therapy?Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. (American Music Therapy Association definition, 2005) Music therapy can be used in any setting, including hospitals, schools, nursing homes, assisted livings and private homes.What is harp therapy?Harp therapy is the use of live harp music/ and voice to facilitate lowering blood pressure, lowering respiratory rate, slowing heart rate, promoting relaxation, relieving stress, releasing and expressing feelings, and/or developing relationships. What I do Currently I work in pediatrics in a medical setting using harp lullaby therapy, relaxation techniques, songwriting, and musical improvisation with children. I also work through contract with individual organizations and individuals. Sign Up For a Music Therapy SessionSongwriting- express feelings through computer-generated music writing, acoustic songwriting, lyric writing, lyric analysis. Music Performance- learn repertoire, or write your own, and have a chance to perform locally and exhibit your talents. Piano/Harp performance- take individual lessons on piano and harp, any age welcome. Harp therapy- listen to live harp music while you meditate, use guided imagery, and focus on deeper breathing and come into a more relaxed state. Improvisation- create music together with music therapist using drums, guitar, flute, piano, harp, voice. Lyric analysis- study what you think the composer/writer intended. Listening- listen to choice music that describes the feelings that you may want to verbalize. Music therapy is currently not reimbursed by insurance companies, but my rates are reasonable and my hours are flexible. Sessions may be done in your home if that is the most comfortable.
